Hello Dining Diva -

Do you know of any swanky new restaurants in the San Jose area? If not, any tried-and-true that you'd recommend?

Thanks much -

The Good News is that I almost always have restaurant recommendations. The Bad News is that I suffer from no-sense-of-direction-itus and don't know how close these are.

My hands down fav South Bay restaurant (tho not new) is Manresa in Los Gatos. Actually it's worth a drive from anywhere.
(shhh....don't say I said this, but the last time I had their tasting menu it was even better than French Laundry's!)www.manresarestaurant.com

But it's not that new...a newer one choice would be Parcel 104 in Santa Clara. Even though it's located in a Marriott hotel, which is not my usual style..their food is fantastically fresh and so NOT your typical hotel food. As a matter of fact, I recently had the most delish, hip, green, p.c., special dinner...where ALL the food (we're talking even spices) had to come from no more than 104 miles. Their beet gazpacho and succulent roasted lamb were stellar! (really not so surprising since Chef Bradley Ogden's behind this)

p.s. the good news is that if Ryn's feeling romantic you really can "Gedda-room"!

For something brand-spanking new, ( I haven't even been yet) I've heard great things about
Trevese in
Los Gatos. Foie gras, suckling pig and Kobe-style beef are all served with a twist and their breads - are all made in-house by pastry chef Michael Finehirsh, who has worked with celebrated French chefs Alain Ducasse and Daniel Boulud. It's located in an old Victorian mansion and supposed to be gorgeous with fine linens and crystal. Why don't you give it a try and get back to us with a full report:)

Wow - thanks much for the speedy response and the suggestions. I rarely venture to the peninsula or the south bay for dining out... I have a feeling my husband and I have been missing out!

Again, thank you for the suggestions -

I have been to Parcel 104 and loved it! The food was excellent...fresh and delicious! I remember pulling up to it thinking....what??!?!? But once inside, you soon forget that you are in a Marriott hotel.

Highly recommended!
