After having dined at Ward Street Cafe two nights in a row this week, I feel compelled to rave about this great little restaurant nestled in downtown Larkspur, CA.

Located at 25 Ward Street in Larkspur (415-924-2493), Ward Street Cafe is owned and operated by Chef Fernando Plazola, who was previously sous chef at Wolfgang Puck's popular Postrio restaurant in San Francisco.

The restaurant has been open for about a year, and boy have they nailed it! The decor is very cozy and comforting, and the wait staff is truly wonderful. So how's the food? In a word - DELICIOUS!!!

Their menu is pretty simple - 3 salads, 7 small plates, 5 large plates and several desserts. This is usually supplemented with a couple of nightly specials.

I've been to Ward Street Cafe five times in the past, and each time was a great experience. From an intimate 15 year anniversary dinner with my wife, to an 8 person birthday dinner, the food and the service were consistently excellent.

My favorite thing to do is get a salad and two of the small plates. I seem to keep ordering the baby back ribs and the tempura prawns, as they are just incredible. For dessert I've been getting the house made cantalope sorbet - YUM!

They have also recently started having live music a couple nights a week. On Wednesday of this week, there was a really great folksy guitar/harmonica player and singer there - very entertaining.

Here is the most recent menu:

Salads:
Sonoma green salad
Romaine salad
Grilled squash salad

Small plates:
Tuna tartar
Baby back ribs
Tempura prawns
Asparagus and prosciutto
Spicy calamari and Chinese green beans
Seared rare ahi tuna
Grilled skirt steak

Large plates:
Free range grilled chicken breast
Hand-cut fettuccini
Braised duck gnocchi
Grilled salmon
Grilled pork chop

If you are in Marin County, you owe it to yourself to dine at Ward Street Cafe. When you go, be sure to say hello to Fernando.
