Hello,

I’m Jay Gordon, a retired corporate trainer and marketing writer for the travel industry. I’ve traveled as much – if not more – since I retired three years ago as I did for so many years before. This is proof that, once bitten by the lure of travel, it never leaves your system.

I worked for Pan American World Airways for half my adult life, Amadeus Global Distribution System (a travel technology company) the other half. I now write weekly columns on a variety of topics for the feisty Mendocino County community newspaper, the Willits Nickel & Dime. (www.thenickelanddime.com.) That’s when I’m not traveling.

I get to New York at least a couple of times a year and have taken nine cruises in just over three years. Not to mention the trip to Turkey over the last Christmas holidays. The constant delight of retirement, however, has been the regular exploration of the nooks and crannies of Mendocino County and beyond. I’ve discovered bus and rail travel and the seductive pace of lingering in places that delight the senses.

I love getting lost in Marin and Sonoma Counties – and nearly anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve also joined with delightful friends to discover the hidden treasures of such intriguing destinations as Yosemite, the Monterey Bay and San Diego areas.

That leaves a lot of the West to learn about. Whether you have ideas to share about places already mentioned or yet to be explored, think of your favorite towns and neighborhoods -- and tell us all all about what interests and pleases you. We want to pick your brain about your favorite Towns & Neighborhoods. Maybe you will inspire us to travel!

Jay Gordon
