Last month, I visited Mare Island Naval Shipyard.
What an interesting place.
There's a museum (http://www.mareislandhpf.org/museum.html) there and they also organize tours.
In February, there's the SF Bay Flyway Festival (http://www.sfbayflywayfestival.com/whatsnew.htm).
The shipyard has been there since 1854 and decommissioned in
1996.
