Looking for an easy way to get started in fishing without the cost of a license? Saturday, June 8 is your day - Twice a year the CA Dept. of Fish and Game (DFG) offers "free fishing days." These are the two days each year when no fishing license is required to a wet line. The other 363 days, anyone 16 years and older must carry a license.
DFG will also offer a number of fishing clinics geared toward kids on the same day. The program called "Fishing in the City" is a great way to introduce kids to fishing at no cost. All equipment, instruction and even the fish are provided.
The program generally runs year-round spotlighting various waters most often near urban areas.
For more information on either of these programs go to www.dfg.gov. If you miss the upcoming free fishing day, the next one is September 22.
If you've attended one of these events - feel free to pass the word on this thread.
