The day I spent Holua sledding on the grassy slopes of the Parker Ranch remains etched in my memory. I had an immense amount of fun and I was deeply touched by the warmth and generosity of Tom Pohaku Stone and everyone involved. Throughout the world, indigenous cultures have been destroyed by colonizing civilizations. It was at once playful and profoundly moving to witness the rebirth of an ancient Hawaiian tradition while scraping a few cow pies along the way. Fortunately, Pohaku continues to teach history, surfing, traditional sports and Hawaiian mythology at Kapi'olani Community College. He and Ipo Thompson stay in touch.
